Microsoft PowerPoint

We also learnt about Microsoft PowerPoint same with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel in the lecture class. In lab session, we have test on this Microsoft Office. We tried to make 7 slides includes all the application, tools and etc that have in Microsoft PowerPoint. The theme is depends on us what we want to use but, must follow the guide line that given by our lecturer Mr. Azzamudin. This test also have mark that we must do it properly.

Microsoft Excel

Same with Microsoft word, the lecturer also guide us in class how to use Microsoft Excel. One of student called to do this simple test guided by our lecturer, the student showed us how to equal the number and made table using Microsoft excel. For this Microsoft excel we didn't have test.

Microsoft Word

We had a quick revision about Microsoft word. We learnt how to use a Microsoft word in the LT class. We had practice in the class guide by our lecturer such as word art, hyperlink and etc. During the lab session we had test to test our skill in Microsoft word but, we have mark for that test. We tried to make a poster using Microsoft word.

Anatomy of MS Windows OS

We have learnt the evolution & progressive development of Windows Operating System and the tools & gadgets of Windows 7 that are worth to use by personal home users and small business in session 1.This week, we also learnt about the Folders - Special, System Tools & accessories. We'd identify the various folders with their functions in Windows 7 and the latest is Windows 8.

Basic Networking Concepts

On this topic, we learnt about Basic Networking Concepts. This is all about the concepts & fundamental of a computer network, data communication and known that computer are able to communicate with each other to convey human messages.

Moreover, in session 2, we have learnt the types of digital communication system or application. We also had a debate about the effectiveness of wired & wireless among the students. The types of network- LAN, MAN & WAN, the characteristics of peer-to-peer & server - based network.

Software Layer

The lecturer showed us the Software Layer that is Operating System, Device Drivers, System Software and then Application Software. In session 2, we learnt about programming languages- Machine, Assembly & High- level Languages.

There are three generations in Higher Level Languages that is Third Level Languages, Forth Level Languages and Fifth Level Languages. Application Software for various types of end- users is what we learnt in session 3. Besides that, many types of Software Packages available off- the shelf & downloadable from the internet, guides & tips dealing with having application software. There are also many ways to utilize the hard disk space when installing new software.

Computer Hardware Basics

In this topic we learnt about the computer can perform a basic operation such as Input, Output, Processing, Storage and Communication. Then Mr. Azam told us there are two components of computer, Hardware and Software. Furthermore we also learnt what computer hardware is, that includes such as Input devices, Output devices, System unit, Storage devices and Communication devices

In session 2 My lecturer explains about Five generation of computer. First Generation (1940-1950): Vacuum Tube stands of ENIAC [1945] and UNIVAC [1950]. Second Generation (1950-1964): Transistor use high level languages (COBOL and FORTAN). Third Generation (1964-1974): Integrated Circuits (IC) stand of Microprocessor chips, Semiconductor memory and multiple computer models. Fourth Generation (1974-Present): Combine millions of transistors. Fifth Generation (now and the future):  Artificial intelligence.

Our ICT lecturer explain about, Computer Architecture includes Processor, memory, I/O system and data-path & control and Categories of computer that includes embedded computers, mobile devices/computer, personal computer (PC), midrange servers, mainframes and supercomputers. The lecturer also explains about system unit, motherboard, processor, CPU, registers, main memory (RAM&ROM), and volatility. Then we learnt about input devices, output devices and types of storage in session 3.
